For those of you who have been off the island for months or in a coma down at King Edward, Toriano Wilson is an emerging superstar. Last weekend he finished fourth in his first pro race in the Red Bull Rookies Cup - and that was after starting the event in the wrong gear!
Toriano, 14, is the real deal and it would be nice for Government to step up and help sponsor him. Under the current 'Elte Athlete' system, Toriano doesn't qualify because he's not doing an Olympic sport. The rules need to be changed so talented Bermudians can get financial backing from Government.
I have a few words which I would like to add to the above statement. I have been working with Toriano's family to assist them in acwuiring sponsorship for Torrie, to be able to attend the races. Never would I have imagined how difficult it is to verbally persuade someone to support, even after Torrie has proved himself to be highly sucessful in the sport of motorcycle racing. I remember hearing His father talk about his sons racing, but I had to see Torrie race with my own eyes. He was fast, not to mention gifted. From that moment on , I supported him with his racing. I have gone as far as being in conversation with the premier in effort of sponsorship from them. Well that didnt work, I wrote a letter to the editor which was published in the sports section...that didnt work either. To make a very long story short,Toriano hasnt managed to make it to the podium yet but he is THE ONE TO WATCH!! Spectators have their eyes on him as well as pro's. So if Bermuda refuses to step up and assist Toriano in his success, then too bad, its their loss. I made a promise that I will assist them in anyway I can. He deserves it. He is TERRIFIC!!!

Does anyone know how to contact the Wilson's to offer support? I belong to a group of riders based in DC that are of afro/caribe descent and we would like to try and help this young guy out....my email is supermotoeast@comcast.net. I met pon of your current champions Paul at Daytona in March but didn't exchange info with him a contact for either would be great...
