A good walk ruined

Anyone who's seen me redesigning the greens of a golf course with my divots would know not to rely on my advice on how to play the game. I was once paired with a four-handicapper on Port Royal and shot a brilliant 179 - thus ending any hopes he had of winning any awards. So it is a good thing the Bermuda Sun will be starting a new golf column on Friday with Eric 'Hav' Trott. You'll be able to count his his insights as to what's happening in Bermuda's golf world.

Trevor Who?

Trevor Who? That's what the majority of people were asking this morning after another first-time major winner booked his ticket to Bermuda.
When the island signed a deal to host the PGA Grand Slam it was met with high expectations of a host of celebrity sports stars like Tiger Woods, Ernie Els, Phil Mickelson and Sergio Garcia descending on these shores.
But yesterday, South African Trevor Immelman became the fourth first-time major winner in five tournaments, since the Bermuda deal was struck. Woods, who elected not to come here, is the only A-List golfer to win a major since Bermuda got the Grand Slam.
In fairness to Immelman, he was well worthy of the Green Jacket, leading from the front with a nerveless performance. And at 28 he has the youth and ability to become a big star.
But right now he's not exactly a name that will have people rushing to the Internet to snap up tickets.
Still, it's a step up from Zach Johnson.
